Contract award - Handeck II Power Station / Switzerland

In January 2013, Kraftwerke Oberhasli AG awarded DSD NOELL GmbH the contract for the construction of the parallel shaft for Handeck 2 in Haslital valley, approx. 80 km south-east of Bern, the Swiss capital.

The tasks comprised the planning (engineering and design), manufacture, transport, installation, tests and commissioning of the parallel shaft of Handeckfluh - Handeck.

The upgrade of Handeck 2 power station (HA2A) primarily comprised the following key components of the waterway system:

• Parallel shaft in Handeckfluh – Handeck (HA2S) (length 740 m, Ø 1.5 m; Ø 2.4 m and Ø 3.0 m.
• 1 bifurcation, 1 T-piece and 1 extension pipe
• Material: steel grades S 460 and S 690 QL. Thickness: 12 – 140 mm

The objective was to upgrade the existing power station systems, to enlarge Grimselsee lake and integrate new power station units into the existing system. The utilisation of water resources is improved without the need of additional intake structures.
